The seven pillars we build around

Every Full STEAM Ahead program is designed around social-emotional learning — the skills that help a young person understand themselves, work with others, and make thoughtful decisions. These are the seven pillars our programming returns to again and again.

What each pillar means

Plain-language definitions families and school partners can use.

  • Pillar one

    Self-Awareness

Recognising your own emotions, strengths, and limits — and understanding how they shape what you do next.

  • Pillar two

    Self-Management

Managing feelings, impulses, and effort so you can keep going when a task gets hard or frustrating.

  • Pillar three

    Social Awareness

Noticing what other people are feeling, and understanding perspectives and backgrounds different from your own.

  • Pillar four

    Relationship Skills

Listening, communicating clearly, working as a team, and repairing things when there is a disagreement.

  • Pillar five

    Responsible Decision-Making

Weighing choices and consequences, and making decisions that account for other people as well as yourself.

  • Pillar six

    Emotional Well-being & Growth

Building the resilience to move through difficulty, and the confidence that growth is always possible.

  • Pillar seven

    Community Engagement & Leadership

Contributing to the people and places around you, and learning to lead in a way that lifts others.
