What happens after I apply?
Our team reviews every application and resume. If we're interested in moving forward, we'll reach out by email to schedule an interview. Volunteers who are selected then complete our annual training before their first shift.
Do I need teaching or medical experience?
No. We ask for a one-page resume so we can understand your background and match you with the right role, but formal teaching or medical experience isn't required.
Is the training really required?
Yes. Every volunteer completes training once a year, including people who have volunteered with us before. Training is free, and you'll leave with your volunteer handbook, ID badge, and shirt.
Can I come to training before deciding to volunteer?
Absolutely. Training is open to anyone who's curious about volunteering. It's the best way to learn what we do.
How old do I have to be?
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
Can I get my service hours verified?
Yes. We verify volunteer service hours for schools, courses, and organizations. Just let us know what you need in your application or after your shift.
Where do volunteers serve?
Most opportunities are in Charlottesville. Full STEAM Ahead also runs in Durham.
