Interview invitations start arriving in early fall, and the first one usually comes before you feel ready. This Saturday-morning workshop opens with a short talk on how interviews actually run, then puts you through three practice stations with a mentor at each: a traditional one-on-one, an MMI-style scenario, and a station built around community health questions. You leave with written feedback and one specific thing to fix before your first real interview.
What we’ll cover:
How interviews run — Traditional, MMI, and panel formats, what each one is testing, and how to prepare for the one you’ll face.
Station 1: traditional — “Tell me about yourself,” “why medicine,” and the follow-ups that come after a rehearsed answer.
Station 2: MMI-style scenario — A short ethics or communication prompt, two minutes to think, and a conversation with a mentor playing the interviewer.
Station 3: community health — Questions about disparities, access, and patients who can’t afford care, and why the honest answer comes from having shown up.
Written feedback — Each mentor scores and comments; you leave with all three sheets and a plan.
Questions:
Why limited spots? — Three stations with a mentor at each only works for about twenty students. Email early; we’ll keep a waitlist.
What should I wear? — Whatever you’d wear to a real interview, if you want the practice to feel real. It isn’t required.
I haven’t been invited to interview yet. — Most people haven’t by mid-September. Preparing before the invitation is the whole point.
